Attention Homeowners: Don’t Drop the Ball in 2021

Make Sure You Commit to These Two Resolutions

Are you ready to say goodbye to 2020? You’re not alone!

With the outbreak of COVID-19, 2020 has been an unthinkable year. We know that many of you have been looking forward to 2021 for quite some time—anxiously anticipating the fresh start it will bring. Finally, the new year is almost here! That means it’s time for us to think about what we want to accomplish in 2021.

Unfortunately, it’s difficult to set New Year’s resolutions when there’s still a lot that’s up in the air right now due to the pandemic. If you’re stuck, Cornerstone Pros has some ideas.

For many of us, home took on a whole new meaning over the past 10 months. It became our office, our children’s classroom, our Friday-night-hang-out spot and more. So, this year, it seems only fair to concentrate on setting resolutions that hit close to home—literally.

Here are two resolutions you should consider if becoming a better homeowner is one of your goals.

1. Make HVAC Maintenance a Priority

Being a homeowner comes with a lot of responsibilities, which makes it tough to stay on top of your to-do list. Sometimes this leads to tasks slipping through the cracks. Sure, dusting tabletops and ensuring the sink is dish-free can be pushed down the list. However, there are other items on the list that are time sensitive. One is scheduling heating and AC maintenance in Tampa, FL.

Staying on top of your comfort system’s need for TLC is crucial. Not only is it your best shot at enjoying problem-free heating and cooling, but regular maintenance also:

  • Adds years to your equipment’s lifespan
  • Secures more dependable, cost-effective operation
  • Protects your unit against costly repairs
  • Reduces your carbon footprint
  • Improves your home’s indoor air quality
  • … And more!

If you find that you continuously put HVAC maintenance off for an extended period of time or forgo it altogether, then you’re putting your comfort, budget and your system’s lifespan in jeopardy. So, this year, commit to scheduling a checkup for your air conditioner in the spring and a checkup for your heating system in the fall.

At Cornerstone, we make accomplishing this New Year’s resolution effortless with our Cornerstone Comfort Club. This preventive maintenance agreement is designed to keep your equipment operating at its best at a more affordable price. Membership comes with a list of benefits, one of which is appointment reminders. You’ll receive a postcard six months after you sign up reminding you that it’s time to schedule service and then another postcard reminder every six months thereafter. 2. Create a Financial Nest Egg

Unfortunately, from your air conditioner to your water heater, no comfort-related appliance is indestructible. The need for repairs happens and eventually replacements are required. However, knowing this inside info gives you the advantage, allowing you to financially prepare for the inevitable.

Not sure how much you need to save? This will help:

  1. Make a list of the major equipment in your home, such as your air conditioner, water heater, heating system, etc.
  2. Next to each item on your list, write down the age of the equipment and how much it would cost you to replace it.
  3. Compare how old your equipment is to its average lifespan to estimate how many years you have left before a replacement may be required.
  4. Divide the replacement cost by the number of years it has left. The result is how much money you should put away each year to ensure your budget is prepared for a replacement.

For example, let’s say your air conditioner is five years old. The average lifespan of a well-maintained air conditioner is 10 to 15 years. This means you most likely have five to 10 years before you’ll need to replace it. If a replacement will cost you $2,000 and you have 10 years left, then you should plan to set aside $200 a year or about $17 a month. That’s a lot more feasible than forking over $2,000 unexpectedly, right?
